June 19th, 2019 at Lakeridge Country Club the Center for Global Understanding Held the 1st annual golf tournament! CGU is dedicated to promoting cultural diversity, cross-cultural understanding, and international education. Proceeds went to support CGU and the organizations we support, such as 100 Black Men of West Texas, Hispanic Association of Women, SouthPlains College, Caprock Foundation, Wayland Baptist University, and Texas Tech. CGU was honored to serve as the Platinum Sponsor for the 24th Annual 100 Black Men of West Texas’ Annual Scholarship Gala which was held on January 26, 2019 at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center at Texas Tech. A portion of CGU’s sponsorship will be used to fund college scholarships to local high school seniors.The local chapter of the 100 is one of the 117 global chapters of the 100 Black Men of America. In addition to providing scholarships, serving as mentors, and providing educational services to youth of all cultural backgrounds, the 100 advocates for health and wellness, economic development, and leadership development.

EventsThe sometimes complex relationship the United States has with other countries was discussed recently by four prominent U.S. diplomats at the fourth annual Ambassadors’ Forum at Texas Tech.
The Ambassador’s Forum was held at the International Cultural Center and featured four distinguished, high-ranking former U.S. diplomats Ronald Neumann, Frank Almaguer, the Honorable Catherine A. Novelli, and Michael C. Polt during a Q&A with the audience.

On Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 the Center for Global Understanding (CGU) will hosted a fundraising dinner with entertainment by Ernie Haase + Signature Sound at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center at 6:30 pm. Ernie Haase + Signature Sound is a Grammy-Nominated, GMA Dove Award Winning, and a radio favorite in the United States and internationally.The fundraising dinner provided the opportunity for local businesses and members of the community to donate and become educated about the CGU.
All proceeds from the dinner and concert went to fulfill the mission of the CGU, which is to promote cultural awareness both locally and abroad.The dinner honored CGU founder, Jay Harris as well as showcased some of the projects the CGU has accomplished. In addition, the CGU presented an endowment to South Plains College to be used for dual credit programs and issuing various other gifts.
